GLIMS & GLOMS dance company was founded by the choreographers Simo Heiskanen and Tuomo Railo in 1999. The company is located in Espoo, and the name refers to its two rivers. The theatre tours in Finland and makes occasional visits abroad.
GLIMS & GLOMS has as its artistic aim to produce performances which include touching comedy, surprising humour and elevating dance. The theatre directs its performances to a wide public - children, the youth and adults. The theatre employs top professionals of the arts, especially dancers. The theatre's performances combine many elements of the performing arts: dance, theatre, music, visual arts, video and different applications of theatrical techniques. The company explores the traditions of the art of dance widely and without prejudice.
GLIMS & GLOMS makes 1-3 productions per year. The theatre's programme consists of tour performances, commissioned works as well as the long-standing hit performances. The works of the repertoire suit to be performed in traditional theatre premises as well as in sports halls, for example.
Every year, the theatre gives 40-50 performances, half of which take place in Espoo and the rest are tour performances elsewhere in Finland. The theatre employs about 20 persons with varying lengths of working periods.
In addition to the performances GLIMS & GLOMS produces various kinds of outreach programs - dance workshops for school children and students, therapeutic dance for elderly, particularly Parkinson patients. Theatre organizes also different kind of seminars and discussions about the subject matters of its performances.
In 2009 G&G received the Finnish State Prize for merits in dance and the Espoo Award for a Cultural Achievement in 2001. Also, the artistic directors were granted the Dance Act of the Year -award at The Kuopio Dance Festival 2002.
