Helinä is inspired by the Finnish eccentric explorer Helinä Rautavaara. The work is a dance theatrical journey around the world - full of African dance and the pulse of samba.
Through the contradictory personality of Helinä Rautavaara, the work reflects the challenges of the meeting of different cultures in a humorous way. These situations are not always pleasant or unaffected. Helinä is also a story of insecurity, the inconsistency of a varying mind and the creative energy it delivers.
Choreographer Simo Heiskanen says: “Helinä Rautavaara’s curiosity and lack of prejudice is still a current theme in today’s Finland. I was also inspired by Rautavaara’s untouchable style of dressing.”
Tickets: Adults 20€, Student/Pension 15€.
Premiered 19.8.2010 at the Espoo Cultural Centre.
